Pantone has announced its 2023 Color of the Year, Viva Magenta 18-1750, a vibrant shade inspired by nature that brings with it the strength and bravery symbolism of the red color family. This powerful shade is an exuberant color that is meant to bring joy and optimism into our homes. It is inspired by the natural dye family, particularly the red of cochineal, one of the most precious and brightest dyes known to the world.
The digital world also influences Pantone’s choice for color of the year, as it has in the past. This year’s pick welcomes us to the “Magentaverse”, dubbed by the company. Pantone partnered with design firm Huge to showcase the color in an immersive art show in Miami, Florida.
Colors in the red family are typically associated with energy, making them a natural fit for kitchens and dining rooms, and can also be used in any living space where a vibrant and energetic aesthetic is desired. Viva Magenta and other crimson shades can symbolize power, luxury, and nobility. The color can be used as the pop of color in a mostly neutral palette or paired with complementary shades for a dramatic effect.
There are many options available for bringing Viva Magenta into the home, ranging from small décor items to investment furniture pieces. A statement sofa is a great way to update a living space, but smaller décor items like candles, vases, accent pillows, throw blankets, wall art, and area rugs can also refresh a room. Outdoor pillows and cushions can also update patio furniture and outdoor living spaces. Viva Magenta is a bold color, but it is also very versatile when it comes to interior design.
